I am really happy that I decided to take today off from the office!  I just came back from what we here in Baltimore call "The Epicenter" of where the riots began.  There was a huge, peaceful, almost joyful Rally, because this morning the State's Attorney for Baltimore City announced the criminal indictments for all the police officers involved in the (unlawful) arrest, and transport of Freddie Gray.  All 6 of those Baltimore Police officers are now under arrest.  That was fast!

I will post new photos, just as quickly as I can get them loaded onto the computer.

I wasn't going to comment publicly on these events, but sometimes things just have to be said. :hmm:

I've noted some friends privately regarding some of the things I was feeling. So... that's why you (and you know who you are) will see bits and pieces of what I have already told you here.

First off, I'm please that there was a rapid arrest of the police officers involved! I know America wants the full truth to come out and justice to follow it's course. Not everyone will be pleased with the outcome. We need to find the person(s) responsible for the death of this young man. There should be consequences for those who actively participated as well as those who turned a blind eye and chose to do nothing!

Anyway, I think there are several reasons why this happened....

First the police side... I think these police officers are more anxious and afraid than anything. It must be very difficult having to work in a hostile-life-threatening environment, or an environment to be perceived as such! When they see a Black person, fear sets in and a threat is perceived whether real or not. Some react because they enjoy the power they think they have. Maybe being an officer is not the right job for them. I certainly wouldn't want this job!

Also, They gain courage to do something wrong when they are in groups... certainly one person is less likely to act alone. What I don't understand is those that watch, and don't try and stop their fellow officers while they continue to use unnecessary force. (?) Oh, I get it no one wants to be a tattle tale.

The same goes for the groups of people rioting.... Doubtful one person would set a car on fire or just break into a store and walk out with unpaid merchandise! They certainly know that's not the right thing to do. There are special ingredients that went into this mix. Most of the people living in the area are unemployed, and have been, for some time. In addition about half the Black men are in jail. Now who knows if all of them have truly done something that deserved placement there.... it's a bad situation!

Silly humans! We all need to think for ourselves! Don't be sheep and follow the crowd! Do the right thing.
